ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes is a residential energy assessment program developed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to help property owners make retrofit choices that improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their home.
The program encourages home retrofits that reduce energy use by offering home improvement grants based on verifiable measures taken to improve the performance and energy efficiency of the home. By using energy more efficiently, Canadians can reduce emissions produced through energy use and contribute to clean air, water and energy and a healthy environment for all Canadians.
Green Communities Canada has been licensed by NRCan to deliver residential energy assessment services in Ontario under the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program. In fact, we are Ontario's leading non-profit delivery agent for the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program.
A Green Communities residential energy assessment provides an objective review of the energy use in your home and determines a rating for the house based on scientific analysis. It provides you with independent advice on how your home uses energy and where it is being wasted. Our Certified Energy Advisors will show you how to improve the comfort of your home, cut heating and cooling costs, and ensure you have adequate, healthy ventilation.
The home energy assessment includes the following:
- A detailed energy evaluation of your home performed by a Certified Energy Advisor.
- A blower door test to find air leaks.
- A report that explains where your energy dollars are being spent and what you can do to improve your home's energy efficiency.
- An energy efficiency rating label that shows you how your home fares for a house of its age.
By implementing measures recommended by our Certified Energy Advisor, you may qualify for up to $10,000 in government grants: $5,000 under the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program and a matching amount of up to $5,000 under Ontario's Home Energy Retrofit Program.
The amount of the grant will depend on the energy-efficiency upgrades that you complete. Eligible improvements include:
- Furnaces
- Heat pumps
- Heat recovery ventilators
- Hot water systems
- Insulation
- Air Sealing
- Windows, doors and skylights
- Water Conservation
